My Favorite Blog

My Favorite Blog

My favorite blog is the one I did on acceptance. It took me a while to catch on to this whole blogging thing.  I'm not very computer savvy but towards the end, I started enjoying the writing I did.  My acceptance blog just defines who I am.  I re- read it and checked the inspirational saying and video I added.  It made me think of where I've been in life and where I'm going now.

Life Lesson / Acceptance

Acceptance

The world as I see it should be all about acceptance. When I say that I mean accepting people for who they are, not who you want them to be.  I know sometimes it's difficult to be accepting, people come in all colors, shapes and forms.  It's especially challenging when you find yourself trying to constantly change someone you love.  Though they may not seem perfect to you or you just wish they would make better decisions in life, you need to accept that hopefully they will do the right thing on their own.  I used to not be so accepting of life changes but my partner of 17 years relapsed after a ten year sobriety.  It was hard and difficult for our family to endear but I embraced the addiction as a disease and accepted things for how they were.  If I didn't have acceptance the hate and bitterness would have taken place. In my heart I knew that he loved us and my boundaries of keeping him away would only make him stronger against his addiction. When everybody else gave up on him, I stayed by his side.  Eventually love prevailed and my acceptance to the disease, to the situation and to the life change made me the stronger person I am today.

There is actually a spiritual message of acceptance hanging in my kitchen so that I and my family can see it everyday.  It says this: Acceptance.... Is the answer to all my problems today.  When I am disturbed, it is because I find some person, place, thing or situation - some fact of my life unacceptable to me, and I can find no serenity until I accept that person, place, thing or situation as being exactly the way it is supposed to be at this moment.  Nothing, absolutely nothing happens in God's world by mistakes; unless I accept life completely on life's terms, I cannot be happy.  I need to concentrate not so much on what needs to be changed in the world as on what needs to be changed in me and in my attitudes.

Wild Card "Measuring Success"

Measuring Success

I choose this story mainly because I feel like I can relate to it the most.  I agree with Renee Loth when she defines success into different stages of her life.  I'm 37 now and when I was eighteen years old, I considered success making it through one whole day in school without cutting class. When your younger I feel that you just see life in a different perspective.  There is no instruction book that tells you how to be successful.  I think that as you grow as a person and learn from mistakes or decisions that didn't work out for the best, that those are the tools in life that make an individual successful.  It is for me anyways, different people have different views and opinions on what success means to them.  I feel that if your happy with yourself and your current path in life, keep traveling down in it.  If you get uncomfortable along the way and want to take a left turn then do it!

Success is all about choices, growing and learning from them. When you fail, you don't quit, you keep trying!  Please watch the video above, it will truly touch your heart.

Forgiveness

"Morrie"

Forgiveness

"Its not just other people we need to forgive, Mitch," he finally whispered.  We also need to forgive ourselves."

Ourselves?
"Yes for all the things we didn't do.  All the things we should have done. You can't get stuck on regrets of what should have happened.  That doesn't help you when you get where I am." (Pg. 166)
Sometimes I think of regret, or what things in life I should have done, but first and foremost I've always be able to forgive.  It may have taken awhile but I've always been able to let go, put my pride aside and start over.  Truth is people aren't perfect, we all make mistakes, we pay for those mistakes in one way or another.  People whom you hold dear to your heart, shouldn't take themselves out of your life.   This quote from the book reminds me of my dad, who I was angry with for leaving us, I stopped talking to him, my pride was hurt too much to forgive him. One day my mom received a phone call, my father passed away after drowning in the Petaluma River.  That was my life lesson, you don't have to forget, but forgive.  I have my own children now and the one thing I try to instill in them is to forgive.  Not only for the other person but for yourself because in a way it sets your soul free.  A quote I always tell to my children is "you never know what will happen, here today, gone tomorrow."   The picture I choose above just represents serenity and peace, when I look at this picture that's the way it makes me feel when I can find forgiveness in my heart.

  • Mattie is a stubborn, determined, straight forward young lady whose strength and bravery are nothing to be reckoned with.
  • Aka "Rooster" whos real name is Reuben Cogburn steals the show with his rough and tough swagger.  He is the epitome of the ideal cowboy with a hidden heart of gold.
  • LaBoeuf joins the two along the way, he too was on the hunt for the same man by the name of Tom Chaney. The trio end up making a good team, looking out for each other along the way.

The novel True Grit, is a story of a true American classic that took place in the old west

on the outskirts of Indian territory. The novel started out as a typical western family trying

to make ends meet on their working ranch. The family consisted of mama, papa, and Mattie

the daughter and a few ranch hands.  True Grit is a story of  truth and integrity, when you think

you've lost faith to all things important, people will surprise you.  Although the novel was a

little hard to follow, due to western slang, it still kept me captivated to read more. I choose this

book because it reminds me of where I live.  My family just moved to a ranch and its an amazing

adventure thus far.  The journey the trio traveled on reminds me of the obstacles I go through,

although they are different experiences, their obstacles just the same.

True Grit will leave you crying happy tears, feeling angry, laughing with the characters and

literally putting yourself inside the story.  I would recommend this book to anyone, its a story

of triumph, strong will, determination, truth and love.  Its about following through on your

word no matter how hard the road traveled becomes.  Its about learning how to trust again and

finding someone to look up to.

ADVERTISEMENTS

In my personal opinion the class topic on advertisements is interesting.  My thoughts are that they do represent what consumers buy and don't buy.  The more you hear it, the more repetitive it is, the more you want it.  That's how it is for me anyways.  The more a commercial airs and the more the media tries to sell it, the more curious I become.  I think this is a clever way to have a wide range of consumerism in our society.

Beaches

Beaches

As I walk, toes buried in the wet cool sand.
The rush of the cool blue water, ripples around my ankles.

The water plays a teasing game of tag, as it quickly touches the shore and leaves again.
Waves crash like thunder, leaving a gentle ring in my ears.

As I admire the colors of dark and light blues and amber hues.
Sunset approaches, bringing a breath taking view.

Watching the water cascade off  of massive rock formations.
Thankful for the beauty of mother nature.

Submersed in the moment, my toes buried in the wet cool sand.
A majestic view as far as my eye can see.

Pepsi/ Michael Jackson and Beyonce

The hook in the above commercial is having a celebrity advertise Pepsi.  The product is targeting a newer generation, our youth.  Pepsi is trying to sell itself by aligning itself with celebrities and catchy phrases.

In this commercial the hook is still introducing a celebrity but Pepsi is trying to sell itself with targeting our youth and future generation but with a twist.  The mirrors that BeyoncĂ© mirrors herself in are of her past.  Pepsi is promoting people to live in the moment with this commercial and stop dwelling in the past.
